Examples

Below are some examples of real world campaigns that have used these mediums to promote themselves or a particular product.

Social Media Campaign

We all know that we can "follow" celebrities on Twitter, or "like" their pages on facebook, however, some promoters have used this platform in more creative ways also. Heroes, a television show in which a group of people suddenly discover they have superpowers, used this type of campaign to not only involve their audiences in the narrative, but make it seem "real".

One of the main characters was a cheerleader, and you can find her Myspace page at https://myspace.com/clairebennet, as well as her Facebook Page, which has since been recognised as a 'fake' and merged with the character information at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Claire-Bennet/109334862418744?rf=116527265062327#

The bad guys worked for a secret organisation rounding up superhumans, which used a paper company as a 'front' for its organisation. They have a real website set up for the business, and you can check it out at http://www.primatechpaper.org/

You could use a Wix yourself and create your very own website, where you could load all your other material, as well as links to any other social media feeds you create.

Webisodes/ Youtube

Here you can find a local example of the "Bondi Hipsters", which have now made the transition to mainstream media with their new TV show on the ABC. These guys initially set themselves up as "psuedo celebritites" as their popularity grew through their regular online Youtube episodes.

One of the original and best marketing campaign to using Youtube, was this video of a bride "wigging out" on her wedding day http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nFDnC8SSWQ

It all turned out to be a hoax, and part of the marketing campaign for Sunsilk, and you can find out more at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h64x8Bu7Mzc

Mobisodes

A TV program or commercial that is created for the mobile phone market. Using more closeups than regular TV, and a focus on montage editing rather than lengthy dramatic dialogue, scenes are set up for easy viewing on tiny screens.

Lost: Missing Pieces is a series of thirteen video clips ranging in length from one to four minutes that aired during the hiatus between the 3rd and 4th seasons of the television show Lost, from which the series is spun off. You can see Ep 1 at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6g6gysRosl8

RedDwarf, a cult Brittish TV show also made some mobisodes, which use animation and quick humour to "hook in" audiences. See some of their mobisodes at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQJlF9GNvNw
